Overview of ANAC

The Automated Negotiating Agent Competition (ANAC) is an international tournament that has been running since 2010 to bring together researchers from the negotiation community. ANAC provides a unique benchmark for evaluating practical negotiation strategies in multi-issue domains and has the following aims:

  • to provide an incentive for the development of effective and efficient negotiation protocols and strategies for bidding, accepting and opponent modeling for different negotiation scenarios;
  • to collect and develop a benchmark of negotiation scenarios, protocols and strategies;
  • to develop a common set of tools and criteria for the evaluation and exploration of new protocols and new strategies against benchmark scenarios, protocols and strategies;
  • to set the research agenda for automated negotiation.

The previous competitions have spawned novel research in AI in the field of autonomous agent design which are available to the wider research community.

Leagues in ANAC 2026

Automated Negotiation League

Explore the strategies and difficulties in creating efficient agents whose primary purpose is to negotiate with other agents' strategies.

Supply Chain Management League

Design and build an autonomous agent that negotiates on behalf of a factory manager situated in a supply chain management simulation.

Human-Agent Negotiation

Build a negotiation strategy that uses the alternating offers protocol (AOP) augmented with text input / output to effectively bargain with human subjects.

News archive (2026 season)

  • August 13th, 2026 The ANAC 2026's IJCAI schedule is announced. All times CEST (GMT+2). See the session schedule above.
  • July 15th, 2026 Optional presentation materials opened. Participants could optionally upload presentation slides, a poster and a video link for their agents. These uploads were entirely optional and had no effect on scoring or ranking. Submission was open until August 1st, 2026, 23:59 AoE.
  • July 1st, 2026 Travel support scholarships opened. Open to finalists who were students at the time of agent submission and attended ANAC in person, with applications due July 10th, 2026. The scholarship was provided as reimbursement of receipted expenses deemed necessary to attend the ANAC session.
  • June 22nd, 2026 Tentative qualified agents announced on the league pages, provisional on submission of the academic report by the report deadline.
  • June 17th, 2026 Final deadline extension. Agent submission was extended to June 21st, 2026, 23:59 AoE and report & requirements submission to June 23rd, 2026, 23:59 AoE for all leagues (ANL, HAN, SCML). This was the final extension.
  • June 8th, 2026 From the next tournament onwards, at most ONE agent per participant was allowed in the online competition (per league-track), aligning with the ANAC one-agent-per-team rule. The last qualification tournament ran around June 11th, 2026.
  • June 4th, 2026 Fairness rule introduced: each team could run at most two agents in the same league-track (ANL, HAN, and each SCML track counted separately); beyond that only the most recently uploaded two ran.
  • May 31st, 2026 Agents could self-declare the technologies they use — Deep Learning, MARL, Game Theory, Bayesian methods, RAG and a dozen more — from the agent edit page. Tagging was voluntary, opt-in, and had zero effect on tournament scoring or ranking; the goal was to help researchers writing related-work sections and surveys find agents matching the methods they study.
  • May 21st, 2026 The participant home page gained Stats and Charts tabs covering every ANAC league — runs, best/mean/latest score, best rank, exception totals, plus score-over-time line charts.
  • May 19th, 2026 Python naming conventions enforced from May 21st, 2026 on every new submission across all leagues. Agents / negotiators whose class name was the placeholder MyAgent or MyNegotiator — or whose module path contained the segments myagent or mynegotiator — were rejected by the submission form and excluded from official tournament runs.
  • May 7th, 2026 The submission deadline was extended to June 15th, 2026 for all leagues.
  • February 6th, 2026 The submission site opened. Welcome to ANAC 2026!
